I call this collection Looking In The Mirror primarily because these writings are a reflection of my past.  So what is this all about?  It's a journey exploring my life and times as a career cop, covering happenings from roughly 1973 to 2007 or later.  It's a story of events in my professional and private life, and at times how they intersected.  But the mirror was also my daily judge.  I would tell new officers who came to work for me to not get too stressed over their job.  If, on a daily basis, they could look at themselves in the mirror at the end of the day, and truthfully say they had given 100% and done the best job they could with the facts and materials they had at their disposal, then they have nothing to be ashamed of or upset about.  I feel that over the course of my career I did indeed give at least 100% the vast majority of the time.  I am rather comfortable with what I see Looking In The Mirror.

*While the stories are based on happenings I was part of, they are my perspective of the events.  When I can’t remember exactly what happened, or someone’s name, I’ll rely on my degree from MSU, Make Shit Up, and move forward instead of bogging down and worrying about it.  Some things will not seem to be law enforcement related as they are personal interactions, but I think they are shaped by my life and career.  My actions and reactions are many times thinking as a cop first and a parent, husband, son and friend second.  Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t.
